Freedom...
I think this quote in page 111 really relates to the entire story. In the story, since people adults expect everyone to be capped, children who are not capped yet think it is natural and part of life to be capped. They treat capping cermonies just like Christians celebrating Christmas. They don't realize that without a free mind, they can't stop the tripods from controlling them. They except capping like a requirement and don't realize that they aren't free. But some kids like Will, that haven't been capped are able to their think with their free minds and decide: If you don't have freedom to think, what is the point of courage? Will and his friends have an adventage because they are free. This is why more people like Ozymandius and Captain Curtis should gather young men to go to the White Mountains. If no more people come to the White mountains, how will they be able to defeat the tripods? People should start thinking this ways and not treat capping ceremony like a part of growing up. This will be their only way of being free from the tripods.
